IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCES FROM ST LUCIAN ATHLETES AT REGIONAL TOURNAMENT
Sagicor Junior International 2 titles- Jaelyn Henry U14 Girls Consolation Champion and Denney Estava U12 singles and Doubles Champion, and 4 finalists positions Tahj Goodman U12 Boys Consolation Finalist, Merkisha Justin Girls U12 Consolation finalist, Sanjay Lake boys U12 singles finalist and Anaiah Bousquet girls U14 consolation finalist.
St Lucia was represented by a team of fifteen (15) athletes at the recently concluded Sagicor Junior International Tennis Tournament from 5th-11th August at the National Tennis Centre in Beausejour, Gros-Islet.
In the boys U12 main draw we saw an all St Lucian final where Denney Estava attained his first regional title after he defeated his teammate Sanjay Lake in three sets. In the boys U12 consolation Tahj Goodman defeated his countryman Daniel Collymore in straight sets advancing to the final where he was defeated by Ethan from St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Merkisha Justin also another St. Lucian made the final of the girls U12 consolation where she was defeated by Kimora Erskine of Guyana in straight sets.
Three St Lucian girls were registered in the U14 category Amia Jn Marie, Jaelyn Henry and Anaiah Bousquet, only Jn Marie advanced to the main draw where she lost in the first round to Trinidadian athlete Makeda Bain. Bousquet and Henry played in the consolation draw making it all the way to the final where Henry took it home in straight sets winning her first regional title and attaining points towards her regional ranking.
