The Sagicor Junior International Tennis Competition has been an exciting journey for the young athletes from Saint Lucia. So far, the nation has secured two prestigious titles, with several more promising performances on the horizon.
Merkisha Justin Triumphs in the 12 and Under Singles
Merkisha Justin delivered an outstanding performance to claim the gold in the 12 and under singles category. This victory marks a significant achievement for Justin, showcasing her talent and determination on the international stage. This is her first singles title. In the final Justin defeated Briella Lake from St Kitts & Nevis 4-2 4-0 in straight sets. Her win is a testament to the rigorous training and dedication that she has invested in her sport.
Jaelyn Henry Advances to the 14 and Under Singles and doubles Final
Jaelyn Henry secured a hard-fought victory over Madison Khan in the girls U14 singles winning in three sets with scores of 4-1, 1-4, 10-6. Today, Henry will compete against Makeda Bain from Trinidad & Tobago for the championship title.
Samuella Bertrand, Kabir Garg and Immanuel Charles Secure Spots in the final of the consolation draw.
Adding to Saint Lucia's success, Samuella Bertrand, Kabir Garg and Immanuel Charles have secured spots in the consolation singles final. In the Under-12 Boys contest, Immanuel Charles will face Kabir Garg in the final. Charles secured his spot by defeating Jelani Flemius in the semifinal with scores of 4-0, 4-2, while Garg advanced by overcoming Christian Duncan from Trinidad with scores of 5-4, 4-1.Their performances have been exemplary, reflecting the depth of talent that Saint Lucia continues to develop in the sport of tennis.
Boys' Under-14 Final: An All-Barbados Affair
In the boys' under-14 final, the competition will feature an exciting all-Barbados showdown. Dimitri and Zane Kirton will face off for the championship. Dimitri secured his place in the final by defeating Matteo Gutierrez from El Salvador in straight sets (4-2, 4-2), while Zane Kirton advanced by overcoming Josiah Hills from Trinidad & Tobago in straight sets (4-0, 4-0).
As the competition progresses, the Saint Lucian athletes are proving their mettle, bringing pride and recognition to their nation. With these achievements, Saint Lucia's future in tennis looks brighter than ever. All finals will be held today, Thursday, August 8th, at the National Tennis Center.
